FIELD HAWKWEED (Hieracium
pratense)
Yellow,
dandelion like flowers ½ to ¾ inches wide .Stem covered with blackish hairs.
Upper and lower leaf surfaces covered with hair. 1 to 3 feet tall. A plant
of fields, roadsides and open areas. Blooms spring to fall. Found in
Greenbrook on the entrance road and on the Long Path in open, sunny areas.
Composite family.

COMMON MILKWEED (Asclepias
syriaca)
Usually a
single stem from 3 to 5 feet in height. Leaves downy beneath, 3 to 9 inches
long. Lavender to greenish-white flowers
in dense
clusters. Blooms June through August. In dry fields, along roadsides and
waste areas. Our most common milkweed. In Greenbrook, along entrance road
and other open areas throughout the Palisades. Milkweed family.

PRAIRIE ROSE (Rosa setigera)
Arching,
trailing or climbing plant. Stems 4’ to 14’ long. Leaves with 3 ( rarely 5 )
egg-shaped, sharply toothed leaflets. Flowers, usually pink, 2 ½” across, in
small clusters. Found in open woods, thickets and clearings; escaped from
cultivation. Blooms late June through August. Rose family.
