Palisades Interstate Parkway
Information on this page current as of January 30, 2008

Completed in 1958, the Parkway provides a scenic 42-mile ride from the George Washington Bridge to Bear Mountain.

Three lookouts in the NJ Section offer spectacular views of the Palisades, the Hudson River, and the New York skyline:

Rockefeller Lookout. About 1 mile north of Exit 1 (northbound access only).

Alpine Lookout. About 3 miles north of Exit 1 (northbound access only).

bullet

State Line Lookout. Opposite Exit 3 (direct access from the northbound lanes; southbound access via U-turn).

Gas stations are located both directions, south of Exit 1.

Click for directions to the NJ Section from points south and New York City or from points north (from the New York State Thruway).

Access to the Parkway is limited to passenger cars and motorcycles. Commercial vehicles and cars pulling trailers are prohibited on the Parkway. Buses must have a permit.

The George Washington Bridge (southbound onlytoll)    I-95 north, New England; New York City; Long Island.

Fort Lee, New Jersey Highways (southbound only, bear left at the split for the exit to the George Washington Bridge)    Lemoine Avenue, local streets, Routes, 4, 46, 1-80, I-95.

Hudson Terrace (southbound only - the last exit before the toll for the Bridge, unless bearing left as described above)    Fort Lee, Englewood Cliffs, Edgewater; Fort Lee Historic Park.

Exit 1    Palisade Ave., Englewood Cliffs, Englewood; U.S. Route 9W; access to Dyckman Hill Road (Henry Hudson Drive), Ross Dock, Englewood Boat Basin & Picnic Area, Undercliff Picnic Area.

Exit 2    U.S. Route 9W, Alpine, Closter; Headquarters; Alpine Approach Road, Alpine Boat Basin & Picnic Area.

State Line Lookout (northbound only)

Exit 3 (southbound only, U-turn available from northbound Parkway)    U.S. Route 9W; the Boy Scout camps.
