The Palisades Interstate Park Commission is finalizing a conceptual plan to guide the use of the former New Jersey Council Scout Camp Alpine. This nearly 300-acre site of forest, trails, and streams is just east of Closter, NJ and had been leased by to the North New Jersey Council of the Boy Scouts of America for over 60 years.
Under the plan, current informal uses would be retained and enhanced. This includes conceptual designs for separate walking and mountain biking paths. The plan incorporates input from community members, neighbors, Bergen County, the NY-NJ Trail Conference, the mountain biking community, and others to ensure that this beautiful part of the Palisades Interstate Park is made available to the public in a way that supports uses of the parcel as a community asset.
With the finalized plan, PIPC will seek funding to implement its recommendations. In the meantime, the Commission will pursue opportunities for small-scale improvements that will allow the site to be safely used as a place to explore.
We invite you to explore our finalized concept plan below.
