The Palisades Interstate Park Commission has completed a conceptual plan to guide the future use and improvement of the former New Jersey Council Scout Camp Alpine. This nearly 300-acre site of forest, trails, and streams—located just east of Closter, New Jersey—has been returned to public use after more than 60 years under lease to the North-New Jersey Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
The plan retains and enhances current informal uses, including making separate walking and mountain-biking paths that connect to regional and neighborhood trail systems. It reflects input from community members, neighbors, Bergen County, the New York–New Jersey Trail Conference, the mountain-biking community, and other stakeholders. Broad and ongoing participation will help ensure this beautiful section of the Palisades Interstate Park is improved for public enjoyment.
The Commission will seek funding to implement the plan’s recommendations and pursue opportunities for enhancements that allow the site to be used, explored, and enjoyed safely.
