Notes on Guided Public Hikes:

Guided hikes are held “drizzle or shine,” but extreme weather may cancel. If in doubt, please call the contact number in the hike description to confirm.

Hike descriptions show an approximate round-trip distance (mi.) and time (hrs.) and a rating. Learn More...

Remember! Even our “easy” hikes are on trails, not paved surfaces. None of the park’s trails are entirely open or level, and mud and puddles are typical after rainfalls. Bring water, proper clothing, and be prepared for poison ivy and ticks.

Retreat to Victory

To commemorate the 1776 British invasion of New Jersey and the beginning of the Continental Army’s strategic “Retreat to Victory,” Retreat Weekend is held each year at Fort Lee Historic Park on the weekend closest to the historic date of November 20. It includes reenactments of eighteenth-century life and weapon and battle demonstrations.

Living History Programs

Our Public Historians host programs at the Kearney House, where participants are invited to experience life along the Hudson River at an 1800's dockside tavern. Some of these programs are “open-house” and appropriate for all ages with no reservations required.  Tavern Nights require reservations, and are more suitable for adult audiences.

The Public History Department has plenty of illustrated talks which can be presented in-person at Libraries, Community Centers, or Schools. In addition, these entertaining and educational programs may be presented remotely or in hybrid programs.
